Microsoft has unveiled its new tablet recently, Microsoft Surface Pro 2 which is a timely update of a very capable device that bridges the gap between tablet and laptop. The Surface Pro 2’s design is solid and classy as is the build quality. The kick stand on the back has two positions rather than just one which makes it attractive and easier to use on your lap. The Surface Pro 2 is an improvement on the original model, especially in the much-needed area of battery life. It’s worth noting that Surface Pro 2 buyers get one year of unlimited Skype calls to landlines in over 60 countries, and free Wi-Fi at Skype hotspots worldwide. Let us have a quick look at the specifications of this tablet.

Display

The Surface Pro 2’s 10.6-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) ClearType Full HD touch screen boasts vivid colors and generous viewing angles. However, it has been tweaked to deliver better color accuracy and is certainly one of the Pro 2’s better features — bright and crisp, with good viewing angles in both horizontal and vertical planes.

Processor

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 tablet is powered by Intel’s latest Haswell Core i5 processor, which has plenty of benefits. It boots up quickly and it had no trouble doing anything including a spot of HD gaming.

OS

It rides the newest Windows 8.1 operating system, which further develops the touch-focused OS based around tiles and the ability to slide screens up, down and sideways to access apps and menus. Windows 8.1 adds a number of native applications, including Health & Fitness and Food & Drink, along with a calculator, alarm and sound recorder.

Storage

The internal RAM storage is 4GB which can be upgraded up to 8GB while there are four options to choose as internal storage, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. The storage can be still expanded using microSD card. The base 64GB model costs $899 and the 128GB version costs $999 and both of these have 4GB of RAM.

While 256GB model ($1,299) and the 512GB version ($1,799 comes with 8GB of RAM.

Battery
Microsoft is reporting that both tablets have improved battery life, with the

Surface Pro 2 now lasting 75% longer than the original Pro. Microsoft claims up to ten hours of playing videos; we actually saw 12 hours of video playback. You can get nine or ten hours of web browsing, although that depends on the sites you visit; videos, Flash and WebGL take more power than simple text pages.

Camera

This tablet features a front and rear 1.2-megapixel 720p LifeCams. Both cameras are angled to show a good view of your face or what you’re looking at when the Surface 2 is propped up on the kickstand.

Connectivity

As far as wireless connectivity goes, the Pro offers a mix of 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy. There is also USB 3.0 and mini display ports for faster data connectivity.
